The 2018 CrossFit Open is coming up fast! Here are some key dates and details, as well as some info about our plans for this year:
- Open registration begins January 11
- The Open runs February 22 – March 26
- Our Open Wrap-Up Party will be Thursday, March 29
What is the CrossFit Open?
The Open is the first stage of the CrossFit Games season and the largest community event of the year. Every year, hundreds of thousands of athletes come together to compete in the worldwide, online competition. For five weeks, a workout is announced on the Thursday night and you must complete it by Monday. The Open offers two versions of each workout: scaled and Rx’d.
What is our In-House Intramural Competition?
We will be running our own in-house leaderboard pitting CFW teams against each other. Points will be awarded for event performances, but also for simply showing up and completing the workouts, as well as for bright spots awarded each week.
Who Will Be Competing in The Open?
Hopefully… pretty much everyone at CFW! On top of the official scaling option, we can also scale the workouts to any ability. The Open is about more than competition, it’s an opportunity to meet new CFW members, to test and push your limits, and to have an amazing time full of high fives and fitness.
When Do We Complete the Workouts?
We will once again be doing our Friday Night Lights event Fridays at 7pm beginning February 23. This is the main time slot to do the Open workout each week, but as long as you can find a judge (it’s not too hard) you may complete the workout anytime before the score submission close on Mondays at 7pm.
What is the Official Online Open?
The Open is the first stage of the CrossFit Games season and the largest community event of the year. Every year, hundreds of thousands of athletes come together to compete in the worldwide, online competition. Scores are logged online through games.crossfit.com and athletes can compare their results to others worldwide, regionally, by age or within their own gyms. At the end of five weeks, the fittest move on to the next stages of competition: the Regionals and the Online Qualifier. There is a cost of US$20 to register for the official Open.
Why Pay When I Can Just Do It For Free?
Registering online lets you take part in the official global leaderboard, and it’s a fun way to track your progress year to year. You’ll be officially competing in the world-wide CrossFit Open, which for many people is a little added push to refine your training and nutrition, and really give it your all.
We’ll be releasing more info soon about our in-house competition (how to register for teams etc), as well as some Open prep classes we’re really excited about. In the meantime, keep training and stay tuned for more info!
